San Mateo County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program with Board of Supervisors proclamation.

Last week, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors proclaimed this week (October 25-31) National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. The theme for this year is “Lead Free Kids for a Healthy Future.”

In the last 30 years, lead exposure in children has decreased, but continues to be the most common environmental disease in California children and the most preventable pediatric health problem. Even low lead exposure amounts can cause serious long term harm, including shortened attention span, aggressive behavior, learning disabilities, and other developmental problems for children.
